Soup du jour When it’s cold outside, Zoup! warms from within
SUNDAY, 31 OCTOBER 2010
As the leaves change and the jackets come out of hiding, taste buds start switching to comfort food in a bowl of warm, satisfying soup. October marks the five-year anniversary of the Zoup! Fresh Soup Company’s Maumee location. The restaurant that has centered its menu around, you guessed it, soup.
“We’re in the forefront of the fast casual movement,” said proprietor Paul Gilis, a NW Ohio resident of 40 years whose son, Franz, is Zoup!’s operations manager as well as a culinary instructor at Penta Career Center. “While we’re open for dinner, we’re designed for the businessperson who wants the sit-down experience, but doesn’t have time for a full-service restaurant. We offer a wide selection of good, affordable food that can be enjoyed in a half-hour or hour lunch break.”
Savory selections
Throughout the year, Zoup! features 100 different soups from smooth Tomato Basil to a comfortably spicy White Chicken Chili. Their twelve-soup selection constantly rotates each day with two daily mainstays, Lobster Bisque and the hearty Chicken Pot Pie. “The rotating soups come and go with the seasons. We’re getting into heartier selections for fall. We’ve started having a sweet Pumpkin Pie Bisque, Macaroni and Cheese Soup, Cheeseburger Royale, and Mulligatawny, an Indian-based chicken curry soup,” said Gilis. Customers with dietary concerns are also considered with at least one dairy free, one low fat, and three vegetarian soups provided daily. Every Zoup! soup, served with fresh baked bread, can be sampled for free and is sold on Sundays in a 16 oz. container for $5. Zoup! also offers nine gourmet sandwiches and seven salads, which can be sampled in a $7 Try 2 - Soup, Sandwich, or Salad Combo.
