Developer launches $19M apartment project in Carmel

Locally based J.C. Hart Co. has broken ground on a $19 million apartment community at the northeast corner of 116th Street and College Avenue in the Carmel Performing Arts District. The "urban inspired" One One Six Apartments will feature 191 units in nine buildings including two loft-style structures served by elevators and designed to appeal particularly to active seniors. The City of Carmel supported the project with a $2.1 million tax-increment revenue bond. Key Bank provided the private financing. The project should be ready for occupancy by next summer. Barley Island Restaurant & Brewhouse has closed in Broad Ripple, a few months shy of its two-year anniversary. The prime corner spot at the southeast corner of Broad Ripple and College avenues previously was home to Scholars Inn Bakehouse.
Zoup! Fresh Soup Company is opening its first central Indiana location, on West Carmel Drive between Pennsylvania and Old Meridian streets in Carmel. The Michigan-based chain has 33 locations in nine states. The restaurants serve a rotating 12 varieties of soup each day, along with sandwiches and salads.
J. Razzo's, a new Italian restaurant from the veteran restaurateur John Perazzo, is under construction in Carmel. The new restaurant and cafe at 12501 N. Meridian St. will serve local wine from Rettig Hill Winery and homemade pastas and breads.
