New stores continue to bloom in the Nation's Capital and the latest group of retailers is an impressive bunch. Here are three buzz-worthy stores to watch for this spring:
Sprinkles Cupcakes: With Georgetown Cupcake, Baked + Wired, Red Velvet Cupcakery and Crumbs already on the map, it's hard to believe there's room for another cupcake shop in this town. But Sprinkles isn't worried. The famous bakery out of Beverly Hills, Calif., is opening its 11th location at 3015 M St. in Georgetown on March 3.
So what makes Sprinkles unique, you ask? These pint-sized pieces of perfection are anything but average. Baked fresh from scratch every day, Sprinkles uses only the finest ingredients including sweet cream butter, madagascar bourbon vanilla (the most expensive vanilla in the world) and real Belgian chocolate sprinkles that come straight from France. Maybe that's why celebs like Katie Holmes, Paris Hilton, Tyra Banks and Oprah Winfrey think these cupcakes are worth every calorie.
CB2: Ever since West Elm closed its downtown location, Washington has been needing a modern, affordable home furnishings store. Luckily, CB2, the hipper version of parent company Crate + Barrel, is opening up at 3307 M St. in Georgetown to help fill that void. The store is currently hiring and plans to open in April.
Zoup!: DC's first franchise devoted entirely to soup is slated to open this spring at 1101 Vermont Ave. NW. With numerous locations around the country, the concept of Zoup seems to be a hot one. Zoup will serve 12 hand-crafted soups each day from its collection of proprietary recipes, as well as salads and sandwiches.
